A shared dream

“We want to use sports to better the social environment and social status of the children in and around the football field.”
 
‘Unity Football Academy’ is part of the foundation ‘Unity for Kids’. It all started with a chance of faith. In 1997 the Dutch Anneke Meijer spent her holiday in The Gambia. She got to know Baboucarr Cham and Modou Sowe: two Gambian men who tried to do something positive in the slumps they live in. For 15 years they have been voluntarily training a children’s football team from the poor area New Jeswang (Shanghai). Anneke was touched by this initiative. She joined the duo and together they are trying to make a Gambian dream come true. “ Our dream is to really make a difference in this neighbourhood”, Anneke says.

In total € 25.000 is needed for stones and the building of a man high wall around a future sports- and education project.  The wall contains about 80.000 stones and has a length of 1 kilometer. The money also provides for a building, showers etc.
